Congratulations to PVA member Victoria Ritzel, awarded Basic Life Support Provider of the Year!

On April 14, Victoria received the Basic Life Support Provider of the Year award at the 2018 STEP Conference awards breakfast. She has received this award in recognition of contributions to the community as a Certified First Responder (CFR) or as an EMT-Basic (EMT-B) through exemplary dedication, responsibility, professional behavior, ingenuity, and special skill or insight in the EMS environment.

Victoria was proudly nominated by SEQ MCCU to draw attention to her hard work and her commitment to patient care in MLREMS and NYS. She anticipates the patient’s and her partner’s needs well before words are spoken, but more than that, she exemplifies an EMT that works as part of a team, and inspires that in others. As safety officer, she shows serious concern for the safety of not only the patient’s, but even more so for her fellow providers, and backs that zeal you by setting the example with her actions.

Victoria completed her EMT class in 2013 and started working right away at Penfield Volunteer Emergency Ambulance all while she was in nursing school. In addition to gaining experience at Penfield and Monroe Ambulance, she was hired at Southeast Quadrant MCCU as a BLS provider to represent SEQ at the many outside agencies where they provide contract staff.

Victoria showed tremendous initiative when she volunteered to head the safety department of both SEQ MCCU and PVA, essentially working from the ground up on a new program. There is no issue too small to tackle and she is focused on making every aspect of EMS safer for EMTs and Paramedics.

Additionally, Victoria works hard to keep crews engaged on training topics during her down time, and sharing her knowledge garnered from her nursing employment with others. She sets a great example for EMTs and Paramedics to strive toward, not only in patient care, but in all aspects and all operations related to pre-hospital care.
